The 1930 US Census for Buffalo, Erie County, NY shows Sgt Peckham residing at # 263 Summers Place with his parents and sister Connie [b.1915 in NY]. Sgt Peckham was employed as a railroad messenger. Also at this address is Sgt Peckham's married sister Mildred Peckham Standart [b. 1906 in Buffalo] and her husband James Standart. . Sgt Peckham enlisted in the Army on April 24 1942 at Buffalo, NY His enlistment records states Charles had completed 1 year of high-school, was 5'10", 170 lbs and was divorced. During Operation Neptune [June 6, 1944] Sgt Peckham parachuted from his C-47 Troop Transport airplane with Tail#43-15137, #40 in the Chalk, #13 in line. Peckham is listed on this jump-roster as a T/5. Sgt Peckham was awarded the Bronze Star Purple Heart Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Croix de Guerre Unit Citation [French], the European- African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one Bronze Service Star and Arrowhead, World War II Victory Medal, WWII Honorable Service Lapel Button, Parachute Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge and the Presidential Distinguished Unit Emblem. Sgt Peckham is interred at the Henri Chapelle American Cemetery, Belgium. at Plot 'H' Row "8' Grave '39'.
