Sgt Ahlgrim was born in 1917 in Colorado and killed in action on Tuesday 
July 4th, 1944 during the invasion of Normandy.

Sgt Ahlgrim is the son of Frederick J Ahlgrim [ b.1890in Missouri  died unknown] a 
brick-mason and the son of Mary Ahlgrim [b 1891 in Kansas and died sometime between 
1920 -1930] 

The 1930 US Census of Gary, Lake County, Indiana shows Robert residing 
at 3611 9th Ave, Gary with his father, stepmother [Evenlyn C Ahlgrim] 
brother William [b Oct 1920 in Colorado] .


Sgt Ahlgrim enlisted in the Army on April 2nd, 1942 at Fort Benjamin 
Harrison, Indiana. His enlistment record states that Robert had completed 2 
years of high-school was 5'6'' 135lbs and was single.

During Operation Neptune Sgt Ahlgrim parachuted from his C-47 Troop 
Transport plane with tail#223332 'Chalk' #16  Drop order #16

Sgt Ahlgrim was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, the Croix de Guerre Unit 
Citation [French] the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign with 
Bronze Service Star and Arrowhead, World War II Victory Medal, WWII 
Honorable Service Lapel Button, Parachute Badge, Combat Infantryman 
Badge and the Presidential Distinguished Unit Emblem 

Sgt Ahlgrim is  interred at the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur 
Mer, France at Plot'D' Row '23' Grave '11'.
